Murison developed a design for a second lens assembly, with a longer focal length (300 mm) and smaller bandwidth, at the back end of the dFTS. It proved possible (just barely) to make use of certain lenses from commercial catalogs, thus avoiding the expense and lead time of custom lenses. Murison worked on two technical memos, one on Zernike circle polynomials (used for describing wavefronts in optical systems) and the other on the lens assembly designs. Both are nearing completion. Murison also tweaked AESOP, his analytical optical ray tracing package, to run on the latest version of Maple and with his latest versions of various Maple utilities.

Murison is helping mentor another dFTS student in celestial mechanics, for potential space-based applications of the dFTS. The student, Alex Simone, is unusually quick and capable for a high school senior.

Oh, and the AA department moved again.
