Murison began designing and writing a new numerical program that will integrate the Lagrange Planetary Equations (LPEs). This program will be independent of his previous LPE numerical program, in an effort to track down a very difficult-to-find disagreement with a simultaneous integration in Cartesian coordinates. The new program will, at first, not include any explicit gauge freedom machinery.
Murison helped in further debugging of the FTS data acquisition program, to which a third CCD data track has been added.
Murison was asked to technically evaluate part of a new optical configuration idea for the OBSS project. It appears that the desire is to interrupt part(!) of the converging(!) starlight beam with a transmission grating(!) in an attempt to measure radial velocities. (Is this a stab at scooping GAIA?) Further details regarding this latest evaluation effort remain to be found out, but the technical nature of the request is plainly inappropriate to the perceived current state of the project, and Murison is convinced—based on many previous uniformly-bad experiences—that this will be another complete waste of time (about one week) and effort.
